SKINNY / HAIRLESS GUINEA PIGS
We was introduce to Sknny Pigs by Melissa Sikes in Illinois,
that's how we got our starter trio
, along with some stock from
a local breeder. Before we brought them home I did extensive
research and learned a lot about them.... Here is what I know
so far:

- Skinny Pigs are a LAB CREATED specie. They are not a
genetic accident.... They are the product of genetic
manipulation . The Mutation first identified in 1978, among the
offspring of three females caged with one male in a colony of
albino Hartley guinea pigs at Montreal's Institute Armand
Frappier (IAF).

-Skinny Pigs have a higher metabolism rate in order to
maintain their body temperature. In other words, they eat
more, drink more, pee more and poop a lot!!!!!

- They require cage cleaning more often.

- They are hardy animals with some special requirements.
Their immune system is a little weaker, but they respond good
to proper veterinarian care and medications. Just follow the
rules that apply to Cavies in general.

_ Hairless Guinea pigs are prone to skin injuries, bites,
scratches, etc. They have a higher tendency to get infections.
It is important to maintain cages clean and control
overpopulation per cage.

- Hairless Guinea Pigs are fun!!!! They have a higher social
interaction power. They can be trained with consistent work.
They love fashion and making costumes and outfits for them
is the best  hobby!!!!

- They required a warm cozy place to cuddle in their cage.
Protect them from drafts and abrupt temperature changes.

- Skinny Pigs are great breeders and wonderful mothers....
Just don't breed the sows after 3 years old.... Well trained
vets can spay and neuter guinea pigs.

-Skinny Pigs, like other Guinea Pigs, are social species. They
live in "packs" and they need companionship..... Never have
one piggy alone. Give him/her companionship......!!!! Make sure
they are same sex or spayed/neutered.
